Burdwan Medical College was set up as ‘Burdwan University Medical College’ by the University of Burdwan in 1969.
It was a modest start in an empty block building (Primary school).
Establishment was set somewhere around the then Honorable Health Minister Late Nani Bhattacharyaa.
Later it was taken over by the Government of West Bengal on 4 August 1976, and renamed as Burdwan Medical College.
Be that as it may, the College stayed as the sole Medical College under the scholarly purview of Burdwan University until it was taken up by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences in 2003.
First group of clinical understudies including 50 understudies, however participated in 1969, had been moved to various Medical Colleges of Kolkata because of insufficiency of foundation of running MBBS course.

Since 2013, Medical Council of India has allowed the College for admission of 150 MBBS understudies every year.
As of now, other than clinical alumni, the Institution is the information center point for almost 100 post graduates including super-strengths per bunch.
