It was set up in 1823 A D with the spearheading endeavors of the prominent Sanskrit researcher and soothsayer Pandit Gangadhar Shastri.
The organization worked as the Government College till 1883.
From that point, its administration was given over to the Board of Trustees and a Committee of Management, both endorsed by the Government.

In 1924, the school commended its century, which was graced by the then Viceroy, Sir R D Issac.
Initially, the school was associated to Calcutta University, at that point from 1887 to 1926, it was partnered to Allahabad University and since 1927, it has been subsidiary to dr. B R Ambedkar University, Agra (earlier known as Agra University).
