Focal Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) (in the past known as Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET)) was set up in 1968 by Government of India with the help of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) at Chennai.
The primary goal of setting up of this particular organization was to create labor in various orders of Plastics Engineering and Technology as no comparable foundation was in presence in the nation.
