During V long term plan an impromptu task under AP Cess reserve plot was begun by Indian Council of Agricultural Research in 1976 at 10 communities for leading exploration on some chose organic products in semi-parched regions of India.
During VI plan, this specially appointed plan was converged in that capacity and named as Cell III of All India Coordinated Fruit Improvement Project (AICFIP).
During VII arrangement, AICFIP was rebuilt to shape a free venture entitled All India Coordinated Research Project on Arid Zone Fruits (AICRP on AZF) with its central command at HAU, Hisar.

In April, 1993 the Project Coordinator alongside the foundation of AICRP on AZF was moved from HAU, Hisar to Bikaner, which really began working at Beechwal, Bikaner from September, 1994.
Subsequent to imagining the advancement made by NRCAH in limited ability to focus time and future requirements of the dry locale, on 27th September, 2000, the NRCAH was raised to undeniable Institute as Central Institute for Arid Horticulture, Bikaner (CIAH) and Central Horticultural Experiment Station (CHES), Godhra, Gujarat (Earlier under IIHR, Bangalore) was converged as its Regional Center on October first, 2000.
Two division for example Division of Crop Production and Division of Crop Improvement has been made during month of August 2013.
